Following the Grand Inauguration of the academic year 2012/2013 at the Medical University of Łódź held on the 28th of September 2012, the White Coat Ceremony for the freshmen students of English programs took place. The White Coat ceremony, originally American, has nowadays become a more and more popular medical school tradition.
Ceremony was hosted by Vice-Dean for Studies in English Prof. Ireneusz Majsterek MSc. PhD, the Dean of the Dentistry Division Prof. Jerzy Sokołowski MD PhD and the staff of the Administration Center for Studies in English at one of the newly opened lecture halls of the MUL Didactic Centre.
The ceremony commenced with the speeches of Vice-Dean, Prof. Ireneusz Majsterek and the MUL Student Government President, Marcel Leichle addressed to the freshmen. Then the freshmen were ceremonially “cloaked” with white coats. Every white coat, embroidered with the logo of the Medical University of Lodz symbolizes fellowship of the MUL medical community.
Such meaningful ritual at the beginning of medical school encourages students to accept the obligations inherent in practice of medicine:
We believe that the White Coat Ceremony as well as the Oath taken during the Grand Inauguration, in front of The Rector and The Senate of the University, will make students aware of their responsibilities from the very first day of their medical education.
We wish them all the best!
