Recognition of documents

According to the Regulation of the Minister of National Education on Recognition of School Certificates Obtained Abroad (March 25th, 2015) school documents issued in foreign education systems must be confirmed through the ‘recognition process’ – it is a condition that must be fulfilled by all foreign candidates who wish to study at Polish universities. The recognition process is to be conducted in Poland (immediately upon arrival to Poland). Please follow the steps below to complete the procedure:

  1. Completion of the documents:
  • Original/duplicate documents which confirm high school education (high school diploma, maturity certificate, school leaving certificate, A-level certificates or equal) with apostille (refers to the nations that are subject to the Hague Convention). Apostille can be attached to the original document or its duplicate/notarized copy.
  • Original/duplicate documents which confirm high school education (high school diploma, maturity certificate, school leaving certificate, A-level certificates or equal) legalized by one of the following institutions:
    • Polish Consulate in the country of diploma issue,
    • Education authorities in the country of diploma issue (Ministry of Education),
    • Embassy/Consulate of the country of diploma issue accredited in Poland or other European Union state.
  • Certificate of eligibility – confirmation that the diploma entitles for admission to higher education institutions in the country of its issue (if such a clause is not available on the diploma). The certificate can be issued by:
    • Polish Consulate in the country of diploma issue,
    • Education authorities in the country of diploma issue (Ministry of Education),
    • Embassy/Consulate of the country of diploma issue accredited in Poland or other European Union state.
  1. Sworn translation of the above documents made from the original language into Polish. The translation can be made by:
    • Sworn translator listed by the Polish Ministry of Justice,
    • Sworn translator registered in other European Union state,
    • Polish Consulate in the country of the diploma issue,
    • Embassy of the country of diploma issue in Poland.
  1. Recognition at Kuratorium:
  • If your diploma was issued in one of the following countries:Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, German, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Netherlands, Island, Italy, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United States of America your documents must be submitted directly to the Dean’s Office.
  • Holders of the diplomas from countries not listed above must complete the recognition process at the Department of Education (‘Kuratorium Oświaty’). All documents have to be delivered to the Department. After verification the Statement of Recognition is issued.

After receiving the statement of recognition all documents must be submitted to the Dean’s Office.
