Get ready for dynamic discussions about health and wellbeing at the 12th IUHPE European Conference on Health Promotion held on June 17-18, 2024, immediately followed by the 7th International Conference on Salutogenesis, June 19-20, 2024, in the flourishing city of Lodz, Poland. As a premier event for the global health promotion community, the organizers invite professionals (e.g., researchers, health promotion practitioners in community settings, civil servants working on health-promoting policies and programming) from around the world for in-person participation, fostering direct engagement, networking, and collaboration.  The 12th IUHPE European Conference on Health Promotion, with the theme “Health Promotion: Cultivating Change Through the Lifespan”, is part of IUHPE’s prestigious series of scientific events. These meetings evaluate the current state of knowledge and practice of health promotion, highlighting future challenges and shaping the agenda for progress in the field. Due to the high demand among graduates, the Postgraduate Education Center of the Medical University of Lodz decided to implement the next edition of a 6-month internship for Doctors and Dentists after medical studies in English, from October 2023. The 3rd edition of the Practical Training is intended for graduates of 2022 and 2023 (due to the statutory requirement to start an internship within 2 years of obtaining the diploma). We are pleased to announce that the Medical University of Lodz was among the top 5% of universities according to the Global 2000 list announced by the Center for World University Rankings (2023 edition). The ranking includes 20,531 universities and research institutes from around the world and 40 from Poland. Taking 12th place in Poland, we are one of the three highest ranked medical universities, right behing Warsaw and Wroclaw. Since 2012, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) has been publishing an academic ranking of world universities, which assesses the quality of education (number of university graduates awarded in international competitions), graduate employment (share of graduates in top management positions in the largest companies), scientific quality (number academic employees who have won academic awards) and the level of scientific research (quality of publications, citation rate, number of international patents). The results of the Ministry of Science and Education programme „Perły Nauki” (Pearls of Science) have been announced. In the first call, Katarzyna Kwas i Aleksandra Zielińska, students at the Faculty of Medicine, obtained grants for their research. The programme aim is to support the units of higher education and scientific entities by providing the conditions for development for outstanding graduates of first cycle degree programmes or third-/fourth-year students in long-cycle Master’s degree programme. The programme is meant to enable the students to conduct their research or develop their artistic skills under guidance of their supervisors. Katarzyna Kwas Project title: The impact of mesenchymal stem cells on adipose metaplasia in rotator cuff damage. On Wednesday, 15 March, after a long break, we finally hosted the secondary schools students who are interested in studies at MUL.  We were visited by over 2000 people from our town, region as well as from more distant areas of Poland. This year’s copious program of Open Doors was designed by over 400 students and our academic body.  Open Doors is an excellent opportunity to get to know our University from within, to learn as much as possible about the place the future candidates are planning to be connected with for the foreseeable future and also get the answers to all the crucial questions: what are the recruitment rules, the dates of documents submission,  previous point thresholds, the teaching facilities at our disposal, what our laboratories look like and how our students spend their leisure time.   Our guests also had a chance to join a guided tour around our laboratories, teaching rooms, including MUL Medical Simulation Centre. 31 workshops and laboratory classes had been prepared and among others they included: The official opening was made by our employees:  dr Justyna Agier and Mateusz Znyk. The young visitors were welcomed by Prof. Waldemar Machała, Vice-Rector for Military Health Care. In Aula 1000, the guests had a chance to listen to a lecture by Tomasz Karauda on Pros and cons of studies at MUL. Then, Prof. Katarzyna Taran told a short  story of the search for immortality in medicine and in research by NASA: Who wants to live forever?. What won the greatest popularity, however, was MEGA, the Surgery Workshop How to sew? where 200 participants simultaneously tested their practical skills in surgical wound suturing. Students organisations and associations put up nearly 40 stalls where they talked about their activities and encouraged the visitors to join the ranks of MUL students. The attractions at Open Doors also involved the record braking in the number of chest compressions on the innovative, eco-friendly resuscitation phantom, ECO CPR, designed at Medical University of Lodz, where 250 people alternately performed 30 763 compressions within 4 hours ! The last Open Doors on-site meeting was held in March 2019. We are all the more glad that after such a long break we could meet in person. Hopefully, our guests received what they came for i.e. the certainty that Medical University of Lodz is the best choice they can make. We wish to express our gratitude to the event coordinator, MUL Promotion Office, members of the students organisations and associations as well as all the employees engaged as without them Open Doors at Medical University of Lodz would never have been held. We are pleased to inform you about a new opportunity led by the 2022-2023 Polish-United StatesFulbright Program Stipendists. The 2023 Women in STEM – Poland Short Essay Contestencourages students to write a short essay about a woman from a Science, Technology,Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field in English. Top entries will receive a prize providedby the Polish-U.S Fulbright Commission along with a certificate of achievement. The challenge is for students to complete a short essay in English and to be as creative aspossible. The purpose of this short essay contest is to continue the celebration of Women’sHistory Month all around Poland by making women’s achievements in STEM fields morevisible. Students from high schools, universities, and doctoral programs are all welcome to enter. The essay competition opens on March 8th and will end on April 16th. Winners will beannounced on May 30th.
