In accordance with the requirements of Directive 2005/36/EU the license to practice can be issued after passing the license exam LEK/LDEK and after completing one year post-graduate internship (in Polish: staz podyplomowy).
The graduate of the Polish medical university has to sit the LEK/LDEK exam in Poland. It is conducted in English and a lot of our graduates, who are planning to practice in EU, are taking it after the studies.
As to one year post-graduate internship (staz podyplomowy), it is possible to complete an internship abroad and afterwards apply to the Minister of Health for recognition of that internship as equivalent of the internship in Poland.
Please confirm the above procedure in the Polish Chamber of Physicians and Dentists.

Please check the possibilities of undertaking the internship in the country where you want to practice. You can also look for the internship in English in such countries as the UK, Ireland or Malta.
In addition, we would like to inform you that the changes introduced in the EU Directive 2005/36/EC had not been consulted with Polish medical universities at any stage.
Out of concern for the graduates’ future carriers, the Rector of the Medical University of Lodz personally submitted several letters to the Ministry of Health with a request to solve the problem of internship for students of programs in English.
Simultaneously, the Conference of Academic Rectors of Medical Universities (KRAUM), together with the Polish Chamber of Physicians and Dentists (NIL), repeatedly filed suggestions for solving this issue to the Minister of Health.
Please be reminded that the ability to resolve the matter is beyond the competence of medical universities and remains ENTIRELY the responsibility of the Ministry of Health.
