Summary of the year 2023

January is not only a time to make plans and New Year’s resolutions but also a good moment to summarize the most important events of the past year.

Below we present a compilation of most significant events and successes from 2023.

  • The Medical University of Łódź  claimed claimed the 1st place in clinical medicine among Polish universities in the prestigious Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2023.
  • MUL also made it among the top 5% of the best universities according to the Global 2000 list compiled by the Center for World University Rankings (2023 edition). The ranking included 20,531 institutions worldwide, including 40 from Poland. Ranking 12th in Poland, we became one of the three highest-ranked medical universities, closely following Warsaw and Wrocław.
  • In the nationwide ranking of academic public universities, Perspektywy 2023, the Medical University of Łódź secured the 11th position. The university received high marks in the categories of scientific efficiency – 3rd place, and publications – 4th place. This reaffirms our position among the top public universities in the country.
  • CKD gained a new facade and Sports Center underwent complex renovation.
  • The University Sports Club AZS UMED once again improved its ranking, securing the 6th highest position in history and for the thirteenth time, claiming the 1st place among medical universities, outperforming rivals. The University Medical Choir achieved another international success, winning the Golden Ribbon at the choir festival in Bratislava.
  • English Division website underwent a metamorphosis and gained new graphic design. The changes made it more attractive for students and candidates and convenient to use.
  • Administrative Center for Studies in English organised second edition of “MUL connects cultures for Christmas” where international students could join Polish families for holidays and get familiar with Polish festive traditions.
  • In November during the White Coat Ceremony 112 MUL 6MD and 5DMD students celebrated the symbolic transition from their preclinical years to the clinical years by wearing the white coats.
  • In December the MUL Student Government organised the Cultural Soirée. Students brought local dishes, wore traditional outfits and prepared artistic performances. Prof. Taran invited Polish primary school students to make a brief presentation of Polish culture for foreign students. Students and guests celebrated the diversity of cultures dancing together.
  • The winner of the Rector’s Award 2023 was Ms. Hoang Bao Ngoc Tran, 6th year 6MD student and Vietnam citizen. Her presentation „Regulatory effect of Extracellular Matrix components and a2B1 integrin on connexin 43 density in cardiac fibroblasts” won 3rd place during the conference Juvenes Pro Medicina 2023. The student has been actively participating in research and scientific work of the Department of Pathophysiology for several years under the supervision of Prof. Jacek Drobnik.
  • The ebook “Around the World with MUL” was published! The idea of the initiative was to introduce international students of MUL to young patients in hospitals and promote diversity. Students shared their reasons to become doctors but also their favourite traditions, sports and dishes from their countries of origin.
