Record-breaking ‘Open Doors’ at Medical University of Lodz

On Wednesday, 15 March, after a long break, we finally hosted the secondary schools students who are interested in studies at MUL.  We were visited by over 2000 people from our town, region as well as from more distant areas of Poland. This year’s copious program of Open Doors was designed by over 400 students and our academic body.  Open Doors is an excellent opportunity to get to know our University from within, to learn as much as possible about the place the future candidates are planning to be connected with for the foreseeable future and also get the answers to all the crucial questions: what are the recruitment rules, the dates of documents submission,  previous point thresholds, the teaching facilities at our disposal, what our laboratories look like and how our students spend their leisure time.   Our guests also had a chance to join a guided tour around our laboratories, teaching rooms, including MUL Medical Simulation Centre. 31 workshops and laboratory classes had been prepared and among others they included: The official opening was made by our employees:  dr Justyna Agier and Mateusz Znyk. The young visitors were welcomed by Prof. Waldemar Machała, Vice-Rector for Military Health Care. In Aula 1000, the guests had a chance to listen to a lecture by Tomasz Karauda on Pros and cons of studies at MUL. Then, Prof. Katarzyna Taran told a short  story of the search for immortality in medicine and in research by NASA: Who wants to live forever?. What won the greatest popularity, however, was MEGA, the Surgery Workshop How to sew? where 200 participants simultaneously tested their practical skills in surgical wound suturing. Students organisations and associations put up nearly 40 stalls where they talked about their activities and encouraged the visitors to join the ranks of MUL students. The attractions at Open Doors also involved the record braking in the number of chest compressions on the innovative, eco-friendly resuscitation phantom, ECO CPR, designed at Medical University of Lodz, where 250 people alternately performed 30 763 compressions within 4 hours ! The last Open Doors on-site meeting was held in March 2019. We are all the more glad that after such a long break we could meet in person. Hopefully, our guests received what they came for i.e. the certainty that Medical University of Lodz is the best choice they can make. We wish to express our gratitude to the event coordinator, MUL Promotion Office, members of the students organisations and associations as well as all the employees engaged as without them Open Doors at Medical University of Lodz would never have been held. The list of this year’s organisers includes: See you next year! More photos on flickr.com

His early childhood was interrupted by the outbreak of WWII. Together with his family he spent the first seven months of the war nightmare in the shelter in the basement where they struggled to survive. Thanks to the help of Polish neighbours they survived and lived in Gliwice, Wałbrzych and Głuszyca, where young Shevah attended a Jewish school.   In 1946 the Weiss family decided to get to Palestine via Czechoslovakia, Austria and Italy where they continued their scape by boat. This coincided with the UN announcement of their decision to create the State of Israel.  Having arrived in Palestine, Shevah Weiss started his education at Agriculture School in Hadassim, he also practiced athletics and weightlifting competitively at that time. After his school-leaving exams he served in the Israeli Armed Forces (1954-1956). Next, he studied Political Science at Hebrew University in Jerusalem  and Law in Tel Aviv. He graduated in 1961. Central University Hospital honoured with Forbes Diamond 2023

The winners of the prestigious Forbes Diamonds 2023 award have been announced. Central University Hospital (CUH) Medical University of Lodz is one of the recipients of the award ranked 7 on the national list of companies in medical and healthcare industry. Such a recognition in such hard times is a double reason to relish the award. It appears that, admittedly not for the first time, our hospital was not only appreciated for the quality of the health care services but also for effective and competent management. This confirms our belief that we have chosen the right direction, that consolidation of potentials is worthwhile,  that it pays off to develop digital solutions and reach out for new initiatives, saysMonika Domarecka PhD, Director of CUH. Central University Hospital is one of three university hospitals of the Medical University of Lodz. MUL structure also includes Pediatric Center Maria Konopnicka (hospital at Sporna St.), Institute of Dentistry, Psychiatry and recently incorporated Gynaecology and Obstetrics Centre Rydygier (hospital at Sterlinga St.). The position of CUH has already been confirmed by numerous awards and certificates the hospital has collected so far: Accreditation Certificate granted by Centre for Quality Monitoring in Health Care, ISO certificates, “Hospital Without Pain” Certificate. Last year, the hospital initiated the construction of Lodz Toxicology Centre (total investments over PLN 60 million), and also received over PLN 100 million from Medical Funds (as one of 14 facilities nationwide) for the improvements in the health care services for the youngest patients. The obtained resources will fund the reconstruction and equipment upgrade for Pediatric Center Maria Konopnicka at Sporna St. as well as the establishment of  Supra-regional Centre for Pediatric Oncology at Clinical and Didactic Centre in Lodz. Forbes Diamonds is an annual ranking of the most dynamically developing Polish companies. The ranking is based on a Swiss method that assesses the value of know-how and investments, where the companies are being recognized based on their sales levels, net income, the value of fixed assets, or their level of investments. What is also crucial in the assessment is the lack of negative events and the hazard ratio being below 4.
